The United States has issued a strong warning to Indian citizens following the circulation of a viral video showing an Indian student in handcuffs at Newark Liberty International Airport.

In a firm statement, the US Embassy in India emphasized that Washington will “not tolerate any abuse of visas or illegal entry” into the country. The embassy reiterated that while the US welcomes legitimate travelers, visiting the country is not a guaranteed right.

“We cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of US law,” the embassy declared, responding to growing concerns after the video drew widespread attention online.

The footage, shared by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain, shows the student visibly distressed and in handcuffs, allegedly being deported back to India. Jain described the treatment as humiliating, noting that the student was in tears and being handled “like a criminal.”

In response, the Indian Consulate General in New York acknowledged the incident, stating, “We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard.”

The incident has sparked renewed discussions around visa regulations and the risks associated with violating immigration laws.
