Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi delivered a strong message to development officers, instructing them to abandon political biases and prioritise efficient governance.

Speaking at a state-level conference for Chief Development Officers (CDOs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) in Bhubaneswar, Majhi warned that officials who fail to uphold transparency, accountability, and discipline will face consequences.

Although he did not directly name the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), his statement implied the need for officers to break free from past political loyalties.

Key Announcements:

  • Performance Evaluation: BDOs will now be assessed through District Collectors, ensuring stronger accountability measures.
  • Respect for Elected Representatives: Complaints of officials disrespecting MLAs and other public representatives will be taken seriously.
  • Employment Boost: MGNREGA projects will prioritise manual labour over machines to create rural job opportunities.
  • Strict Governance Standards: Officers failing to comply with new efficiency measures may be removed from their positions.

Majhi stressed that the success of government schemes depends on their effective implementation at the grassroots level. He called upon officials to ensure that every citizen, especially those in rural areas, receives the benefits of development programs. He also announced stricter accountability measures, including performance evaluations for BDOs through District Collectors.

The CM reiterated that government officers must act as a bridge between the administration and the people, ensuring transparency and efficiency. He warned that officials failing to uphold these standards would face consequences.

“This government stands for efficiency and service to the people. Officers who align with this vision will be supported; others will be dismissed,” Majhi concluded.
