Bhubaneswar: In the ongoing Odisha Budget Session 2025, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan outlined the government’s strategic focus on reducing inflation, boosting the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), and increasing per capita income.
He emphasized that the budget has been reallocated with these objectives in mind, building upon the initiatives undertaken in the past 7-8 months to provide a clear pathway for Odisha’s development.
The budget session commenced on February 13, 2025, following an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Surama Padhy to ensure smooth proceedings. The session is scheduled to continue until April 5, 2025, encompassing discussions on various fiscal policies and developmental programs.
According to the Odisha Budget Analysis 2024-25, the state’s GSDP for 2024-25 was projected at ₹9.26 lakh crore, reflecting an 11.2% growth over the previous fiscal year. The current budget aims to surpass this growth rate by implementing targeted measures to stimulate economic activity across various sectors.
In line with the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, the budget also addresses the fiscal deficit, aligning with the Union Budget 2025’s target of 4.4% of GDP for FY26. This balance between fiscal consolidation and boosting consumption is expected to create a conducive environment for sustainable economic growth in Odisha.
