Mumin Chen, Taiwan’s Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, praised director Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, calling it the most impressive Indian film he watched over the past year.
Ambassador Highlights Interest in Political Cinema
Speaking during the Taiwan Film Festival held in New Delhi, Chen—who is also a professor of political science—shared his admiration for Indian cinema, specifically highlighting his interest in political narratives.
”Because I am also a political science professor and right now working as an ambassador, I watch a lot of political movies in India. So last year, the most impressive one I saw was Dhurandhar,” Chen stated during an interaction.
Chen also expressed high regard for Indian actor-producer Aamir Khan, praising his contribution toward socially conscious cinema addressing critical issues in Indian society, while acknowledging major icons like Shah Rukh Khan.
The Phenomenon of Dhurandhar
Aditya Dhar’s espionage saga Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh as Jaskirat Singh Rangi (alias Hamza Ali Mazari), an Indian intelligence operative deployed to Lyari, Pakistan, to dismantle a terror network from within. The multi-starrer franchise—featuring Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun—shattered global box office records following its initial December 2025 release, earning ₹1,307 crore worldwide for its first installment, followed by the release of Dhurandhar 2 in March 2026.
The Taiwan Film Festival in New Delhi continues to showcase contemporary Taiwanese cinema—including documentaries and feature films—aiming to foster deeper cultural and artistic exchange between Taiwan and India.
