In a major success against illicit drug trade, Tirtol Police busted a brown sugar syndicate and arrested six individuals, including a mother and her two sons, from Kutilagram Dayalpur village. The operation yielded 60 grams of brown sugar, cash, and vehicles.
Jagatsinghpur SP Ankit Verma briefed reporters at Tirtol Police Station today, stating that a special team—formed under Tirtol SDPO Ajay Kumar Das and Inspector-in-Charge Banshidhar Pradhan—conducted a raid on October 24 following a tip-off during night patrolling. Police swooped in on suspects gathered near the residence of Jhuni Das, apprehending six while a few others fled.
The arrestees have been identified as Jhuni Das (45) and her sons Papu alias Durga Prasad Das (34) and Tima alias Bibhu Prasad Das (30) of Kutilagram Dayalpur; Muna alias Saroj Kumar Das (30) of Kantapada; Koushik Raula (38) of Kanakpur; and Saubhagya Ranjan Singh (33) of Markandapur. SP Verma highlighted that Saubhagya Ranjan Singh is the mastermind behind the syndicate, who was previously jailed by Madhupatna police in Cuttack in a 1.5 kg brown sugar case.
Police seized a white car, a motorcycle, a scooty, five mobile phones, and Rs 8,200 in cash. A case (No. 472) has been registered under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover the root of the network and trace the fleeing suspects.
