Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has launched a major industrial initiative in Mayurbhanj district, aiming to attract investments worth ₹14,000 crore and create nearly 7,925 jobs in the tribal heartland.
The announcement was made during the PM Vishwakarma and National SC-ST Hub Conclave at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Takatpur.
The project includes the setup of ten major industries, envisioned to transform the region’s economic landscape and uplift local communities through job creation and infrastructure development.
Empowering Tribal Artisans
The CM also revealed plans to open 14 SC-ST Hubs across Odisha, with a special focus on supporting traditional artisans in Mayurbhanj—particularly those working with Sabai grass, sal leaves, and other forest-based crafts. These hubs will offer financial aid and facilitate easy bank loans, helping artisans scale their work.
Vishwakarma Scheme: Supporting Heritage Trades
Highlighting the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, CM Majhi shared that 35% of its beneficiaries belong to SC and ST communities, and 29% are women. Nationally, 29.64 lakh artisans have benefited, with 1.05 lakh from Odisha. In the state, 77,000 individuals have received basic training and over 10,000 have secured loans totaling ₹91 crore.
In Mayurbhanj alone, 1,831 people have registered, 1,476 completed training, and 216 beneficiaries have received interest-free loans amounting to ₹2 crore.
Centre’s Backing for Odisha’s Growth
Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who was present at the event, reaffirmed the Centre’s support for Odisha’s development goals. He also hinted at plans to develop an industrial park in Mayurbhanj, reinforcing the government’s focus on turning the district into a manufacturing and MSME hub.
The conclave saw participation from several key leaders, including Rairangpur MP Naba Charan Majhi and Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Mohanta, and aimed to spread awareness about central schemes empowering traditional workers and marginalized communities.
