In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-corruption probe against Prasanjit Das, Superintending Engineer (SE) of the Mahanadi Northern Division, Jagatpur, Kataka, officers of the Odisha Vigilance have recovered over 606 grams of gold jewellery from his bank locker in Bhubaneswar.

The recovery was made during a court-mandated three-day police remand granted by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. The remand, which ran from November 2 to November 4, 2026, was sought by the investigating officer to further uncover assets linked to Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 24/2026, registered under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Gold Vault Opened During Bargarh Search

While in custody, Das was escorted to an Axis Bank branch in Bargarh, Bhubaneswar, to open and inventory a safe deposit locker operated by him. Upon opening the locker, Vigilance officials seized 606.30 grams of gold jewellery, adding a substantial physical asset dimension to the ongoing disproportionate assets investigation.

Trail of Cash and Previous Arrest

The case against the senior engineer first came to light on October 17, 2026, when Odisha Vigilance intercepted Sri Das while he was transporting suspected ill-gotten cash totalling Rs 7,28,620/-.

Following his immediate arrest and interception, simultaneous search raids were launched across his residential locations. The searches unearthed an additional Rs 14,60,000/- in unaccounted cash, bringing the total cash seizures from the Superintending Engineer to Rs 21,88,620/-. He was subsequently forwarded to judicial custody before the Special Judge, Vigilance.

Court Production Scheduled for Today

With the three-day police remand concluding today, November 4, 2026, Sri Das is set to be produced back before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Vigilance officials confirmed that further financial verification and technical investigation into the sources of these assets remain in progress.
