New Delhi witnessed the grand Beating Retreat Ceremony 2026 at Vijay Chowk on January 29.

The event formally concluded India’s Republic Day celebrations. Massed bands from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces delivered 30 captivating musical presentations. They performed traditional and contemporary Indian compositions with perfect synchronisation. Spectators enjoyed the evocative tunes against the illuminated backdrop of Raisina Hill, North Block and South Block. The
President of India, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, attended the ceremony along with senior dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X earlier today. He highlighted how the Beating Retreat Ceremony 2026 showcases India’s rich military legacy. He reaffirmed national pride in the armed forces who dedicate their lives to protect the country.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the Beating Retreat a solemn and dignified tradition. He noted that the ceremony embodies discipline, unity and enduring values of the Armed Forces. He described it as a powerful symbol of national pride and military heritage.
The ceremony traces its origins to the 17th century. Troops once beat drums at sunset to signal retreat from the battlefield and return to camp. Today it represents the end of daily military duties and the honours tradition. Beating Retreat Ceremony 2026 holds deep significance. It pays tribute to the discipline and unity of India’s armed forces. Citizens reflect on national values as the three-day Republic Day festivities draw to a close. Doordarshan broadcast the event live. Official digital platforms also streamed the ceremony for wider audiences.
