Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a new monthly incentive scheme for teacher-in-charges (principals) serving in non-government-aided colleges across the state.
The step aims to motivate senior faculty members to assume leadership responsibilities, particularly in remote and geographically challenging regions, ensuring uninterrupted and effective academic management.
Key Highlights of the Incentive Scheme
Under the newly approved proposal, teachers serving as acting principals in category 488 and 662 non-government aided colleges will receive a monthly incentive ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on their posting location:
-
Home District / Urban Areas: Principals posted within their home district or in well-developed urban areas will receive Rs 5,000 per month.
-
Outside Home District: Those posted in colleges outside their home district will get Rs 7,000 per month.
-
300+ km Away from Home: Educators serving at institutions located more than 300 km from their home or home district will receive Rs 9,000 per month.
-
Remote & Difficult Terrains: Principals posted in geographically isolated, hard-to-reach, or remote areas will be entitled to the highest slab of Rs 10,000 per month. Specific criteria for remote locations will be finalised by a designated committee.
Impact and Implementation
The initiative will directly benefit around 641 non-government aided colleges across Odisha, incurring an annual financial outlay of approximately Rs 6 crore for the state government.
Expressing confidence in the decision, Chief Minister Majhi noted that the financial encouragement will eliminate reluctance among faculty members to take up leadership roles in far-flung areas, ultimately upgrading the quality and stability of higher education throughout the state. The scheme will officially take effect following the publication of the formal notification.
