A 76-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her residence at Buddhanagar under the Laxmisagar police station limits in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased has been identified as Kunjalata Nanda. Preliminary investigations suggest she was murdered for gain, as open almirahs and missing gold ornaments, cash, and valuables point toward a robbery.
The victim bore a deep injury mark on the back of her head. Police suspect the involvement of the home caretaker, Balabhadra Maharana from Tangi, who has been missing since the incident came to light.
Top officials, including the Police Commissioner and DCP, rushed to the crime scene to oversee the investigation. Scientific and forensic teams are scanning nearby CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events.
The body has been shifted to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which will confirm the exact cause of death as a manhunt continues for the absconding caretaker.
