Chennai: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on March 26.
The 15th edition of the Tata IPL will be played in four venues – Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne – CCI & the MCA International Stadium, Pune. There will be a total of 70 league matches and 4 playoffs in 65 days.
There will be 12 doubleheaders overall with the afternoon matches starting at 3.30 pm IST and the evening matches at 7.30 pm IST. Chennai Super Kings, led by skipper MS Dhoni, will feature in two-afternoon matches – one against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the DY Patil Stadium on April 9 and one against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium on May 15. The first doubleheader will be played on March 27.
The Super Kings play their final league match on May 20 against the Rajasthan Royals, while the last league match of the tournament is between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on May 22
Placed in Group B alongside Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, the Super Kings will play two matches against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans respectively.
The Super Kings play one match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants respectively. The final will be played on May 29.
