Even as cyclone ‘Arnab’ weakens and moves out of focus, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather warning.
A new low-pressure area has formed over the south Andaman Sea on Thursday morning.
According to IMD forecasts, this system is expected to concentrate into a well-marked low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman-Nicobar Islands within the next 24 hours. Following that, it is very likely to intensify further into a depression over the subsequent 24 hours.
Meteorological models indicate that the system will move in a west-northwestward direction. While it is currently too early to determine its exact impact on the Odisha coast, weather experts note that systems originating in the Andaman region frequently track towards the Bay of Bengal, potentially bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to the eastern coastline.
The weather department is maintaining continuous surveillance on the progress, path, and intensity of the developing system, with clearer projections expected within the next 24 to 48 hours.
In light of the brewing system, authorities have advised fishermen to strictly adhere to weather advisories before venturing out into the sea, while residents in coastal regions remain on alert.
