Actor Imran Khan, an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder and US citizen, has formally requested authorities to share all underlying documents and police reports relied upon to issue him a “Leave India” notice and to propose the cancellation of his OCI status.
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) issued the directive following Khan’s detention during a youth-led protest near Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10.
In a representation submitted to the FRRO, Khan argued that the show-cause notice was based on incomplete statements and unshared Mumbai Police reports. He asserted that failing to provide these materials denies him a fair hearing under the Citizenship Act.
Stressing transparency, Khan highlighted that he has lived in India for 42 years, building his entire life, family, and career in the country. He maintained that he was merely surrounded by media while returning to his vehicle and did not violate any protest regulations.
The Bombay High Court has placed the FRRO’s “Leave India” notice on hold until November 2 after Union authorities requested additional time to respond, assuring the bench that no coercive steps will be taken against the actor in the interim.
