The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its investigation into the January 28 explosion in Bhubaneswar’s Sundarpada area, closely examining viral CCTV footage that captured the moment of the blast.
The explosion, which occurred in Azad Nagar under Sundarpada, sent shockwaves through the locality and raised concerns about the possible use of high-grade explosive materials. Investigators are working to determine how powerful explosives allegedly reached the accused prior to the incident.
CCTV Footage Under Detailed Review
The CCTV visuals, now circulating widely on social media, show a sudden massive fireball erupting from a building in Azad Nagar, followed by thick black smoke engulfing the surrounding area. The intensity of the blast caused panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes after hearing the loud explosion.
Taking the incident seriously, the NIA has strengthened its probe and is analysing all digital and forensic evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify any broader links.
RDX Samples Recovered
Sources indicate that suspected RDX samples were recovered from the blast site, prompting central agencies to treat the case with heightened urgency. Forensic teams are examining the materials to confirm their composition and origin.
The main accused in the case, identified as Sehnabaz Mallik, reportedly died while undergoing medical treatment. Two other individuals injured in the explosion remain under medical care.
