Rourkela: Six persons were arrested by Rourkela Steel City police in connection with a contraband distribution racket in the district on Monday.
Meanwhile, police have seized around 322 grams of heroin, country-made pistols from the accused persons.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Roshan Ray, Irfan Alam, Md. Nasir, Md. Jarad, Vivek Shankar and Bajrang Shah. The absconding gang members are Sehbaaz khan and Naushad Khan.
According to reports, a team of Rourkela’s Plant Side police conducted an operation and nabbed three accused in Rourkela’s Minapada area and seized 322 grams of heroin worth Rs 7,86,000.
Apart from this, the police recovered a couple of country-made pistols, seven live bullets, Rs 1,26,000 cash, three cell phones and three two-wheelers from the accused.
As per reports, the peddlers were targeting mostly young customers. To nab the accused the Steel City police had constituted a special team and mounted surveillance for the past three months.
