Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level review meeting under the banner of ‘PRAYASS’ (Proactive Governance Attempt for Yielding Results and Advancing Social Sector) at Lok Seva Bhawan today.

The comprehensive session focused on grassroots-level interventions, aiming to deliver permanent and swift solutions to complex challenges across three crucial pillars of society: Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education.

Empowering the Core Pillars of Society

Opening the deliberations, Chief Minister Majhi emphasised that a strong, resilient society can only be built on the bedrock of robust healthcare, proper nutrition, and quality education. He urged the respective departments to step up accountability and enhance field-level efficiency to better serve citizens’ fundamental needs.

Driving Down Maternal and Infant Mortality

With a sharp focus on healthcare delivery, the Chief Minister instructed health officials to adopt a mission-mode approach to bring down maternal mortality rates (MMR), infant mortality rates (IMR), and neonatal mortality rates to absolute minimums.

  • Emphasising last-mile delivery, he directed authorities to ensure top-tier medical facilities for pregnant women and newborns in rural and remote regions.

  • The directives also highlighted strengthening emergency medical services across government hospitals and reinforcing healthcare workers’ sense of duty.

Intensifying ‘Suposhita Odisha’ and Combating Malnutrition

Addressing developmental hurdles like stunting and wasting caused by childhood malnutrition, CM Majhi called for an aggressive scaling up of the ‘Suposhita Odisha’ campaign. He stressed rigorous monitoring and quality control of nutritional food supplies distributed through Anganwadi centers to ensure wholesome health outcomes for mothers and children.

Elevating Foundational Education

Turning to the education sector, the Chief Minister underscored the necessity of reinforcing foundational learning right from the primary school level. He advised educators to maintain their primary focus on teaching and core academic activities, predicting a significant leap in student proficiency as a result.

High-Level Participation

The high-powered meeting witnessed active participation from top bureaucrats and administrative heads, including Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Development Commissioner D.K. Singh, Additional Chief Secretary to CM Saswata Mishra, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Health Department Aswathy S., Commissioner cum-Secretary of School and Mass Education Department N. Tirumala Naik, and Director of Integrated Child Development and Social Welfare Monisha Banerjee.

The deliberations concluded with a collective pledge from officials to execute grassroots-level reforms proactively, ensuring that the fruits of governance reach the most vulnerable communities seamlessly.
