The Rourkela police have arrested Aman Pradhan, a 24-year-old resident of Bhubaneswar, for impersonating an IAS officer from the Chief Minister’s Office in Odisha.
Aman, originally from Kalahandi district, falsely presented himself as Manoj Kumar Sahoo, the Private Secretary to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in an attempt to extort money from government officials.
On April 22, Aman made a phone call to the Deputy Director of Mines in Rourkela, introducing himself as IAS Manoj Sahoo and demanding money. When the official disconnected the call, suspecting foul play, the accused attempted again the following day. This prompted the official to file a complaint at the Udit Nagar Police Station.
With assistance from the Rourkela cyber police, authorities tracked the location of Aman and arrested him in Bhubaneswar. He was forwarded to the local court and charged under sections of the law, including the IT Act. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of technology and fake identities to exploit individuals.
