A 25-year-old youth, identified as Managobinda Patra, a resident of Sector-19 in Rourkela, reportedly went missing after drowning while bathing in Tarkera Dam on Saturday evening.
According to available information, Patro had gone to the dam along with two friends when the incident occurred. While bathing in the water, he is believed to have drowned and disappeared from sight, triggering panic among his companions.
Upon receiving information, a team of government firefighters rushed to the spot and immediately launched a search and rescue operation. However, despite extensive efforts, the missing youth could not be traced due to poor visibility and darkness.
Officials said the search operation was suspended for the night and will resume on Sunday morning with renewed efforts to locate the missing youth.
Meanwhile, Raghunathpali ps police have reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident.
The incident has cast a shadow of concern in the area, with family members and local residents anxiously awaiting updates on the ongoing search operation.
