A peon allegedly gave a bottle filled with urine to his senior officer, mistaking it for drinking water in Gajapati district.

The event occurred on the night of July 23 at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department office in R. Udayagiri.

According to the complaint filed with local police, Assistant Executive Engineer Guruprasad Pattnayak was working late and asked peon Subash Chandra Behera for drinking water. Behera allegedly handed him a bottle containing urine. Pattnayak unknowingly consumed some of it under work stress and soon fell ill.

The officer was later admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. Following his recovery, Pattnayak filed a formal police complaint, prompting an investigation into the incident.

Police have registered a case and begun probing whether the act was a deliberate offence or an unfortunate mistake. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the peon’s alleged actions
