A youth attempted suicide by climbing onto the rooftop of the Mangalabag police station in Cuttack on Monday morning.
Identified as Chandana Das from Nikirai in Kendrapara district, he was rescued by the fire services after a tense standoff lasting nearly an hour.
Reports said Chandana works as an ambulance driver but has not been allowed to drive for several days. Distressed by the situation, he came to the police station to lodge a complaint. When officers did not respond to his grievance, he grew more agitated and climbed onto the rooftop, attempting to end his life.
Police tried to pacify him, but he refused to listen. Fire services personnel eventually reached the spot and safely brought him down. He was handed over to police custody and immediately shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses described the incident as chaotic, with locals gathering outside the police station as rescue efforts unfolded. Authorities confirmed that Chandana remains under medical care, while investigations continue into the circumstances that led to his extreme step.
