Police in Deogarh district seized a single-barrel country-made gun, gunpowder, and a motorcycle during a night patrol near Dhaurakhman village under Kundheigola police limits.
Officers arrested 30-year-old Keshab Hemram of Kumbhar Sahi, Jeypore, after intercepting him late Sunday night.
Reports said Keshab attempted to turn back upon spotting the police patrol vehicle near Zero Point while riding his bike (OD-19-B-3445). Officers grew suspicious and chased him, eventually stopping him near Khairpali High School. A search revealed the firearm and gunpowder in his possession.
Police confirmed that Keshab had no valid documents for the weapon. Investigations suggested he kept the gun for illegal activities, including hunting wild animals. Authorities seized the firearm, gunpowder, and motorcycle.
Keshab was produced in court on Monday. His bail plea was rejected, and he was sent to judicial custody. Police sources stated that such seizures highlight ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms possession in forested regions of Odisha.
