New Delhi: Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore team as its mentor for the upcoming Women’s Premier League.

“It is a pleasure for me to join the RCB women’s team as a mentor,” the winner of six Grand Slam and 43 WTA titles said in an RCB statement.

Sania is expected to join the squad following the conclusion of the ATP Dubai Open, which is likely to be her last professional tournament.

Notably, the 36-year-old had announced her decision to retire from professional tennis prior to the Australian Open, where she and her partner Rohan Bopanna finished runners-up in the mixed doubles.

Royal Challengers will open its WPL campaign on March 5, the second day of the tournament, against Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium.
