Winter session of Odisha Assembly kicks off

Bhubaneswar: The winter session of the state Assembly commenced today without Covid-19 restrictions and will continue till December 31.

It is all set to be stormy with the opposition BJP and Congress ready to target the state government with a host of issues like Archana Nag honeytrap case, farmers’ issue and mandi ‘mismanagement’.

As per schedule, the supplementary budget for the financial year 2022-23 will be presented before the House. It will have a total of 33 working days including six private members days.

The Assembly will be under a three-level security zone under the guidance of Bhubaneswar DCP. Besides, 28 platoons of police force will be deployed for security. Five control rooms have already been set up to monitor movement of people.

The session will have 33 working days, of which six have been marked for private members’ business days. There will be no meetings on five Sundays.

Notably, since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic till the last session, the Assembly functioned under Civid-19 restrictions. MLAs were attending the proceedings from different galleries of the House, district headquarters and the secretariat. Most of the time, Patnaik was attending the house virtually.

All members and their staff, officials and journalists were undergoing Covid tests prior to the beginning of the sessions.
