External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized on Sunday that a “war anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere,” expressing grave concern over ongoing global military conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, and highlighting their devastating economic impact on nations far removed from the battlefields.
Global Cost of Ongoing Conflicts
Addressing the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan in New Delhi on the occasion of UN Day, Jaishankar reiterated India’s steadfast position that dialogue and diplomacy offer the only sustainable path to resolving complex geopolitical disputes. He specifically highlighted the compounding crises arising from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in West Asia.
”There are today two major conflicts going on in the world: in Ukraine and in West Asia or the Middle East. Societies and economies, peoples far away, who have little say in the matter, are actually paying the cost,” Jaishankar stated.
Call for Collective Diplomatic Engagement
Stressing that the international community cannot stand by passively while global instability mounts, the minister affirmed India’s willingness to engage constructively with global partners to foster peace.
”We cannot remain helpless spectators. India expresses global sentiment when we urge that dialogue and diplomacy are the only solution. We are making efforts ourselves and are open to working with other partners to that end,” he added.
Jaishankar’s address reinforces New Delhi’s consistent foreign policy stance advocating for peaceful negotiations, national sovereignty, and economic stabilization amidst global crises.
