Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s new Data Centre and Cyber Security Training Institute in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, underscoring India’s push to build a more secure, technology-driven financial system amid rising digital risks.
PM Modi arrived at Bhubaneswar airport at 4:10 pm and travelled by special helicopter to the Infovalley-2 helipad. He was received by Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with senior state officials.
Inaugurating the two facilities, the Prime Minister described them as critical for making the country’s economic framework stronger, safer, and more technology-dependent. In the digital age, rapid growth in online banking and financial transactions has also brought heightened threats of cyber fraud, data theft, and online attacks. The new RBI Data Centre is expected to advance modern data management, secure storage, and uninterrupted digital services, reinforcing India’s digital public infrastructure.
The Cyber Security Training Institute will serve as a dedicated platform for high-level training, research, and skill development, with special focus on professionals in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector. It will emphasise quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies. AI systems can help detect unusual transaction patterns and potential fraud, while quantum computing is expected to create both new opportunities and challenges in cryptography and data security.
The Prime Minister noted that building skilled human resources and aligning modern technology with robust cyber security will better equip India’s financial institutions against evolving threats.
Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Jual Oram, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Odisha president Manmohan Samal, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, and other dignitaries were present.
