Tensions flared up once again along the disputed inter-state border as the Odisha administration and police successfully thwarted an attempt by neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to distribute free solar equipment in the Kotia region.
The incident took place in Upar Sembi village, located within Koraput district, when a team of representatives and employees from Andhra Pradesh arrived via a large truckload of solar kits. According to local reports, the entourage planned to distribute the equipment to approximately 36 families in the village around 2:00 PM on Saturday.
Acting swiftly on intelligence regarding the unauthorised move, a coordinated team of Odisha revenue officials, local civil authorities, and the Kotia Police rushed to the scene. The officials firmly intervened, raising strong objections to the unapproved welfare activities being conducted by the neighbouring state in the contested area. Confronted by the resolute stand of the Odisha administration, the Andhra representatives were forced to turn back, leaving the village with their truckload of solar equipment intact.
The Kotia region has long been a flashpoint of territorial and administrative dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, with both states frequently vying for the allegiance of local residents through welfare initiatives and development projects. Following Saturday’s intervention, the Odisha administration has maintained heightened vigilance across the border region to prevent similar unauthorised incursions and uphold state jurisdiction.
