The National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, has unveiled its annual publication, “Energy Statistics India 2025,” showcasing India’s progress toward energy efficiency, sustainability, and growth.
The publication, available at www.mospi.gov.in, offers a rich dataset on energy reserves, production, consumption, and import/export, across commodities such as coal, lignite, petroleum, natural gas, and renewable resources.
This edition introduces a new chapter, based on the System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework, featuring asset accounts and supply-use tables for fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The data highlights India’s resilience and determination to achieve its “Viksit Bharat” vision by 2047.

- Energy Supply Growth: Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) increased by 7.8% in FY 2023-24, reaching 9,03,158 KToE.
- Renewable Energy Potential: India’s renewable energy potential is 21,09,655 MW, led by wind power (55%) and solar energy.
- Capacity Expansion: Installed renewable capacity rose from 81,593 MW (2015) to 1,98,213 MW (2024), achieving a CAGR of 10.36%.
- Improved Efficiency: Transmission and distribution losses dropped from 23% in FY 2014-15 to 17% in FY 2023-24.
- Sectoral Growth: Industrial energy consumption surged to 3,11,822 KToE, outperforming other sectors.
