Balasore: People were taken aback this afternoon after an unexploded bomb landed near a thatched hut at Maharudrapur village in Baripada panchayat under Bahanaga block of Balasore district this afternoon.
According to sources, one Abhaya Nanda Das was working in the backyard of his house at around 3:30 p.m, when suddenly there was a loud noise of a crash. Upon inquiry, they noticed a three feet deep hole near the cattle shed and metallic equipment buried inside the earth.
No loss of lives has been reported. However, some cattle suffered minor injuries following a stampede after the huge bomb crashed on the shed, sources added.
On intimation, defence security personnel reached the spot for inquiry and recovered it. The unexploded bomb is said to be nearly 50 to 60 kilograms.
It is being ascertained that the unexploded ordnance may have fallen out of its path and landed in the village during testing of arms and ammunition at Chandipur.
