UK to deploy aircraft carrier in Indo-Pacific, Japan hails move

New Delhi: Japanese Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo said that Britain will promote stability by being involved in defence in Indo-Pacific region.

Nobuo has hailed that the UK’s plan to deploy its new flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth in the Indo-Pacific region in this connection.

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the Queen Elizabeth carrier will make stops in India, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. Indo-Pacific region includes the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean, including the South China Sea.

The Chinese government claims sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea and has overlapping territorial claims with Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan.

It is increasing maritime activities in both the South China Sea and the East China Sea over the past few months following tensions with US.
