A woman from Kandhamala district has given birth to conjoined twins sharing a single body with two heads at the Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur.
The newborn has been immediately shifted to the hospital’s Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), where a dedicated team of paediatricians and specialists is closely monitoring its vital signs. According to hospital sources, the mother travelled from Kandhamala to Brahmapur for specialised medical care during her delivery.
Medical professionals identify this rare biological condition as craniopagus, or conjoined twins, where infants are born physically connected. The advanced facility at the SNCU is currently being utilised to constantly check the baby’s respiration, heart rate, and other essential medical parameters.
Doctors at MKCG noted that such occurrences are exceptionally rare, and a comprehensive health assessment will take time as they observe the newborn’s stability. Meanwhile, the birth has sparked widespread attention across the hospital premises and the local community, with family members and well-wishers praying for the infant’s health and survival.
While hospital authorities are taking every possible step to provide intensive supportive care, no official statements have yet been released regarding potential surgical separation or detailed treatment procedures. The medical team remains focused on maintaining the infant’s stable condition during this challenging time.
