The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar and the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster joint research collaboration and strengthen scholarly interactions, with a major focus on semiconductors and basic sciences.
The MoU was formally signed on Wednesday at IIT Bhubaneswar by Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, and Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Key deans and senior faculty members from IIT Bhubaneswar were present during the ceremony.
Under the five-year agreement, the two premier institutes will facilitate collaborative research projects, joint external funding proposals, and reciprocal supervision of doctoral students.
Initial research efforts will concentrate on semiconductor technologies, alongside sharing experimental resources and jointly utilising large-scale laboratory facilities. The collaboration also opens avenues for visiting and adjunct faculty roles, as well as student exchange programs for academic training, seminars, and observerships.
Highlighting the vision behind the initiative, Prof. Karmalkar stated that combining the complementary strengths of both institutions will create vast opportunities for joint research and doctoral engagement.
Prof. Mishra added that the partnership marks the start of a deeper academic journey aimed at creating a lasting impact on science and society.
The agreement also stipulates that intellectual property generated through joint initiatives will be co-owned on a 50:50 basis between the two institutions.
