Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the eighth annual Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi on Tuesday, centering his address on the guiding vision of “power to empower”.
Speaking before a gathering of over 500 global public and private sector leaders under the theme “A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power,” the Prime Minister stressed that the true value of modern instruments of influence lies in their underlying purpose.
Shifting the Paradigm: From Control to Empowerment
Addressing the delegates alongside forum founder Michael Bloomberg, PM Modi highlighted how technology, data, knowledge, and innovation have transformed into major assets. However, he cautioned that global leadership must prioritize how these instruments benefit society at large rather than remaining concentrated among a privileged few.
-
- Empowerment Over Control: The Prime Minister advocated for a philosophical evolution in governance and business—moving from a paradigm of power to control toward power to enable.
- Cooperation Over Competition: Emphasizing shared prosperity, he underscored shifting from power to compete to power to cooperate, alongside fostering an environment of helping others succeed.
- Bridging Divides: Pointing to access gaps in technology and knowledge, Modi questioned whether advanced innovations would serve a select demographic or scale opportunities for millions.
”The right question is: how is this power being utilised? Will technology only be beneficial for a few people or will create opportunities for crores of people? Will knowledge remain the strength of a few people, or empower everyone?” Modi stated.
India’s Role as a Global Growth Engine
Positioning the nation against the backdrop of its march toward Viksit Bharat (Developed India), Modi noted that India has transitioned from being merely an attractive destination for foreign investment to becoming a dependable co-architect of the future global economic order.
The three-day forum—convening prominent international chief executives, policymakers, and financial leaders—serves as a high-level platform to address shifting geopolitical paradigms, supply chain resilience, and technological disruptions like artificial intelligence within the changing global landscape.
