A tragic accident killed two truck drivers after a head-on collision triggered a massive fire at Chunaghati on National Highway-520.
At around 2 am, a dump truck collided head-on with a coal-laden truck near Kundurupani Chhak, a stretch notorious for frequent accidents under K. Balang police limits. As a result, the impact was so severe that both vehicles caught fire instantly.
Soon after, the blaze engulfed the trucks completely, reducing them to ashes. Fire services personnel from Koida, along with local police, rushed to the spot. After considerable effort, they managed to bring the flames under control.
Meanwhile, police teams recovered the charred bodies of the two drivers by cutting open the mangled remains of the vehicles with gas cutters. Authorities have not yet confirmed their identities. Later, officials sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Consequently, the accident caused major traffic disruption on NH-520. Long queues of stranded vehicles stretched on both sides of the highway for several hours. Eventually, clearance operations restored traffic flow.
