A tragic road accident near Gobindpur toll gate on National Highway-49 claimed the life of a toll gate employee early Thursday morning.
The deceased, identified as Anil Kumar Patel from Kadamdihi village, was on duty when a speeding Scorpio vehicle carrying cattle struck him fatally.
Following the incident, tension gripped the area as locals gathered in protest. Rengali police arrived promptly, pacified the crowd, and sent Anil’s body for post-mortem. The vehicle involved in the accident was seized, and six cattle were rescued from it. However, the driver suspected of illegal cattle transportation managed to flee the scene.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are actively pursuing the absconding accused. The incident has raised concerns over unchecked cattle transport and road safety violations on national highways.
