Odisha is expected to witness thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in several parts of the state over the next two days, as a cyclonic circulation remains active over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby areas, according to the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
Heavy Rain Alert for Koraput and Other Districts
The weather office has issued warnings for rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in multiple districts.
As per the forecast, Koraput district is likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Sunday.
Several other districts — including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh — may also witness similar weather conditions.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during lightning activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near open fields.
Alert Issued for North and Coastal Odisha
The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for North and Coastal Odisha for Monday.
These regions are likely to see intense rainfall, thunder, and lightning, the department said in its advisory.
People living in low-lying areas have been urged to take necessary precautions, while farmers have been advised to plan their agricultural activities accordingly to avoid losses due to heavy rain.
Monsoon Withdrawal Underway
Meanwhile, the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon has officially begun from Odisha, marking the gradual shift toward the post-monsoon season.
Meteorologists noted that weather patterns are likely to fluctuate during this transition phase, with occasional spells of rain expected before the complete retreat of the monsoon system.
