Odisha continues to experience nor’wester-induced thunderstorms and rainfall this week. The Meteorological Department issued an orange warning today for Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts.
Officials also placed Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri under a yellow warning. Weather experts confirmed that thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds will affect several parts of the state. Wind speeds may reach 40–50 km per hour, accompanied by heavy showers and hail in some areas.
The impact of the nor’wester has already lowered daytime temperatures for the past three days. Cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall have dominated weather conditions. On Wednesday, Koraput, Nuapada, and Binika witnessed heavy rainfall. In Koraput town, thunderstorms disrupted the electricity supply for nearly two hours.
The Meteorological Department predicted that thunderstorms will intensify from today and continue until March 21. On March 20, more than half of Odisha’s districts are expected to experience severe thunderstorms, including northern, southern, and central regions. Lightning strikes and heavy rainfall may cause disruptions in daily life.
