A Special CBI Court today remanded into custody three persons arrested in Bhubaneswar for alleged financial irregularities and tender fixing after a huge amount of cash was seized from a luxury vehicle in the city.
The arrested persons are identified as Chanchal Mukherjee, Group General Manager, M/s Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited (a Central Govt. PSU under Ministry of Heavy Industries), —along with two other individuals- Santosh Moharana, Director of M/s Penta A Studio Private Limited, Bhubaneswar, and Mana Mohan Maharana, a private person.
The CBI sleuths today produced the accused persons in the court seeking a seven-day remand period. However, the court allowed the CBI to take the accused trio on a three-day remand.
Yesterday, CBI apprehended the GGM of Bridge and Roof Co., along with two private persons including the Director of a Private Company & another private person, after payment of Rs 10 lakh bribe to said accused GGM.
CBI registered a case on 07.12.2024 against four accused including the GGM, the Director of a Bhubaneswar-based private company and a Private Person, on allegations that the accused Group General Manager, was indulging in corrupt and illegal activities in the matter of awarding work orders and clearing bills in lieu of undue advantage in the form of bribe.
It was alleged that the accused Director met the GGM at his Bhubaneshwar office on 06.12.2024 during which the latter demanded cash of Rs. 10 lakh to adjust the said amount in future billings.
CBI laid a trap on Saturday night and caught the accused GGM obtaining demanded undue advantage/bribe amount of Rs. 10 lakh and seized the entire bribe money. Another private person was caught for his role as co-conspirator in abetting and facilitating the exchange of undue advantage.
Searches are being conducted at 8 locations in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata which has so far led to recovery of incriminating documents, a vehicle used in the commission of offence along with digital devices while an investigation is underway.
