A heartbreaking incident in Hatikhana village under Jagatpur police limits has left the community in mourning after a 15‑year‑old boy died by suicide following a dispute with his mother over mobile phone use.
Hours later, his mother, unable to bear the loss, reportedly consumed poison and is battling for life.
The deceased, Ayushman Sahu, also known as Somu, was a Class 10 student at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Purbakhachha. Known for his talent in dance and acting, Somu had recently won a junior award in a local TV competition titled Tike Dance Tike Acting.
According to reports, the family was observing the first death anniversary of Somu’s father on Thursday morning. When Somu was found watching his mobile phone, his mother scolded him and hid the device. Upset, Somu allegedly consumed pesticide kept in the house. He was rushed to hospitals in Jagatpur and later to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Overwhelmed by grief, his mother later consumed poison. Neighbours rushed her to a private hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
