Tension gripped Odisha’s Tangi Block after government employees launched a pen-down strike demanding strict action over alleged misconduct involving actor-turned-politician Arindam Roy and local leader Abhay Barik.
The protest erupted after allegations surfaced that the two leaders entered the block office and allegedly intimidated the Assistant Block Development Officer (ABDO), triggering outrage among staff members.
Employees of the Tangi Block administration staged a peaceful protest inside the office premises on Sunday, refusing to attend official duties while demanding immediate action against those involved. Protesters said government officials must be allowed to work without fear, pressure, or political intimidation.
The incident has quickly turned into a major political flashpoint in Odisha, with workers’ unions and administrative staff expressing concern over the safety and dignity of government employees inside public offices.
Meanwhile, supporters of the Biju Janata Dal also gathered outside the block office, demanding the arrest of the two leaders and raising slogans in protest. The situation remained tense throughout the day as police deployed heavy security around the block premises to avoid any untoward incident.
According to reports, the entire Tangi Block office area was converted into a virtual police fortress. Senior police officials, including the DSP and officers from Odisha Police, remained present at the spot along with two platoons of police force to maintain law and order.
The controversy has sparked fresh political debate in Odisha, especially because Arindam Roy is a well-known public figure with a strong presence in regional politics and cinema. The development has also intensified discussions over political interference in administrative functioning.
As the protest continues, employees have warned that they may intensify their agitation if concrete action is not taken soon. The administration has not yet issued an official detailed statement on the allegations, but the issue is expected to dominate political discussions in the state in the coming days.
