Sambalpur police achieved major success through a six-day independent operation aimed at controlling crime and restoring law and order.
The campaign ran from May 11 to May 16 and targeted multiple criminal networks across the district.
Police arrested 50 individuals with pending warrants and resolved 49 old cases. In a decisive strike against the illegal narcotics trade, officers registered two NDPS Act cases and arrested two key ganja traffickers. Authorities seized 8.31 kilograms of ganja, cash, a car, five mobile phones, and nearly 1,200 bottles of banned cough syrup. They also recovered a country-made pistol, one live round, and three empty cartridges.
The operation extended to the illegal liquor trade in collaboration with the Excise Department. Police registered 36 cases and seized 309.55 litres of illicit liquor, including foreign, country-made, and hand-brewed varieties.
Criminal gangs involved in the illegal arms trade also faced strong action. Police registered three cases and arrested 86 hardened criminals. Seizures included six country-made pistols, 20 live rounds, two luxury cars, and three empty cartridges.
Traffic enforcement formed another key part of the campaign. Police conducted late-night block checks and caught 45 drunk drivers, collecting fines totalling Rs 4.31 lakh.
