Swati Maliwal, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and ex-Delhi Commission for Women chief, announced her resignation from AAP and formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alongside Raghav Chadha. Her decision marks a significant setback for AAP, already grappling with internal turmoil and high-profile exits.

Maliwal launched a scathing attack on AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of being anti-women, corrupt, and indulging in “gundagardi.” She criticised his extravagant lifestyle, citing the “Sheesh Mahal” controversy surrounding his official residence. Maliwal declared that her move was voluntary, motivated by faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and his “historic decisions.”

She urged those seeking constructive politics to join BJP, describing it as a party committed to national progress. Her remarks underscore growing discontent within AAP, which has faced mounting criticism and defections in recent months.

Raghav Chadha, who also joined BJP, echoed Maliwal’s sentiments, stating that his departure stemmed from “disgust, not fear.” Both leaders emphasised that their decision was driven by principles rather than compulsion.

The dual exit of Maliwal and Chadha is expected to reshape Delhi’s political landscape, intensifying challenges for AAP while bolstering BJP’s narrative of inclusivity and reform.

As the political realignment unfolds, the developments highlight the shifting loyalties and ideological divides shaping India’s capital politics.
