Delhi Capitals posted a mammoth 264 for 2, but it still wasn’t enough. In a match that shattered records and defied logic, Punjab Kings chased down 265 with six wickets and 11 balls to spare at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, producing one of the most audacious run chases in IPL history.
Delhi Capitals looked untouchable while batting first. KL Rahul played a career-defining knock, remaining unbeaten on 152 off just 67 balls, laced with 16 fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of over 226. Nitish Rana matched the carnage with a blistering 91 off 44, as the pair stitched together a monstrous 220-run partnership. Delhi raced to 248 for 2 by the 18th over, hammering the bowling at more than 13 runs per over and setting what seemed like an impossible target.
Yet Punjab Kings approached the chase with zero fear. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh launched a breathtaking assault from ball one. Arya smashed 43 off 17, while Prabhsimran was pure destruction — 76 off just 26 deliveries, racing to his fifty in a mere 18 balls. The duo put up 116 runs in the first six overs alone, putting Punjab way ahead of the required rate.
Even as wickets tumbled in the middle overs, Shreyas Iyer held the innings together with a composed yet aggressive captain’s knock of 71 not out off 36 balls. With this, Iyer marked a significant personal milestone by reaching 4,000 runs in his TATA IPL career.
Supported by Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh, Punjab maintained their composure and surged to 265 for 4 in 18.5 overs, sealing a six-wicket victory and etching their name in the IPL record books.
This chase not only broke Punjab’s own previous record of 262 but also marked their 10th successful 200+ run chase in IPL history — the most by any team. In a night dominated by batters on both sides, Punjab’s fearless aggression and clarity under pressure turned the impossible into reality.
