A rogue elephant trampled a 50‑year‑old labourer to death late Monday night in Damol village under Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district.
The victim, identified as Anai Behera, was cycling home from a brick kiln around 10:30 pm when the wild elephant attacked him. The animal trampled him, and he died instantly at the spot.
Family members, police, and forest officials recovered the body and shifted it to Parjang Community Health Centre for post‑mortem examination. Authorities confirmed the incident and began inquiries into elephant movement in the area.
The rogue elephant attack has sparked fear among villagers living in the forest‑fringe zones of Dhenkanal. Residents expressed concern over repeated encounters with elephants, which often stray into human settlements in search of food.
