Astronomers confirmed that a solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, following the recent lunar eclipse.
The event is expected to be long and spectacular, with the Moon completely covering the Sun and creating a glowing ring effect.
The eclipse will begin at 9:04 pm IST on August 12 and end at 4:25 am IST on August 13. It will occur in the zodiac sign Cancer and Ashlesha Nakshatra. Scientists noted that the eclipse will bring daytime darkness in regions where it is visible, making it one of the most striking astronomical events of the year.
The solar eclipse will not be visible in India, so the Sutak period associated with eclipses will not apply. Religious activities and temple rituals will continue as usual. In Hindu tradition, eclipses are linked to Rahu and Ketu, and many believe chanting mantras or performing charity during such events brings multiplied benefits.
The eclipse will be visible across North America, parts of Europe, and northern polar regions, including Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, and Russia. For India, the timing coincides with nighttime, preventing visibility.
This will be the last solar eclipse of 2026, followed by a lunar eclipse on August 28. Astronomers and spiritual observers alike are preparing for the rare celestial spectacle.
