In a significant operation against illegal activities, Sundargarh district administration conducted a joint raid on Tuesday targeting unauthorized coal mines in Gopalpur Panchayat’s Ratansara region.
The operation, led by Sub-Collector Dasarathi Sarabu, police, and revenue teams, uncovered over 10 illegal coal mines in the area. Acting on the District Collector’s directive, a substantial quantity of stolen coal, approximately 100 tons, was seized during the raid.
Investigations revealed coal theft involving open mining in canals and private lands, with stolen coal being transported from vast underground mines in Telenadihi to coal depots and washeries. Suspicion of illegal coal being supplied to depots prompted a comprehensive inspection directive from the District Collector, with strict action promised if discrepancies are found in coal stocks.
The raid also led to the sealing of an illegal brick kiln that was using stolen coal. Sub-Collector Dasarathi Sarabu assured that those involved in the illegal coal trade would be tracked and subjected to immediate legal actions.
