The Odisha Forest Department on Wednesday arrested three wildlife hunters from the Hindol forest range of Dhenkanal district.
The operation, led by vigilant forest officials, resulted in the confiscation of crucial hunting materials, including a country-made rifle, explosives, and over four kilograms of wild boar meat.
The arrested individuals, identified as Ramesh Chandra Raut from Bampa village, Purna Chandra Behera from Hilsara village, and Hadibandhu Behera from Kantimili village, were reportedly seasoned poachers. According to Sumitra, a senior Forest Division Officer, the trio was caught during a routine patrolling operation.
Authorities have ramped up security and patrols in response to the rising frequency of illegal hunting activities in the region. This follows incidents earlier in the month where poachers’ recklessness caused fatalities. Sumitra emphasized the department’s determination to ensure wildlife protection and prevent the area’s biodiversity from further decline.
The arrest marks a significant step in combating the rampant wildlife poaching that has plagued the Hindol forest for years.
