A Delhi court has convicted Sukesh Chandrasekhar for impersonating a Supreme Court judge and attempting to pressure a judicial officer to grant him bail.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Harshita Mishra of the Tis Hazari Courts found Chandrasekhar guilty under IPC Sections 170, 189 and 507, relating to impersonation of a public servant, threatening a public servant, and criminal intimidation through anonymous communication.

The court described his act as an “absurd theatrical production” aimed at interfering with judicial proceedings. Chandrasekhar allegedly used a constable’s mobile phone in April 2017 to call Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary, posing first as a judge’s secretary and then as the judge himself, demanding bail.

The court emphasised that “orders are passed in courtrooms, not dictated over clandestine telephone calls,” warning that impersonation poses a serious threat to judicial authority.

While convicting Chandrasekhar, the court criticised the Delhi Police investigation as superficial, noting failures to recover phones, collect call records, or examine key witnesses. It directed senior police officials to re‑examine the role of Constable Manjeet, whose phone was misused.

Despite investigative lapses, the court held that evidence was sufficient to prove Chandrasekhar’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
