Bhanjanagar: Showing an exemplary act of humanity, Sub-Collector of Bhanjanagar Rajendra Minz and others performed the last rites of a 65-year-old man who died due to Covid-19 at Dedicated Covid Care Centre here last night.
As per reports, the body of the elderly man was abandoned by the family members due to COVID scare and no one turned to claim the body.
When Minz came to know about the grim scenario, he rushed with a team of staff to the hospital and took up the task to perform the last rites of the deceased man on their own.
The Sub-Collector accompanied by Public Relations Officer Fakir Mohan Majhi, Revenue Assistants Biswajit Sethi, Fakir Mohan Swain, and Balaram Jani and Surendra Sethi, shifted the body to the cremation ground located on the outskirts of Bhanjanagar town.
Adhering to Covid guidelines and wearing PPEs, Minz and his team consigned the mortal remains of the man to the flames. The cremation work finished at around 12:30 AM at night.
The humanitarian efforts of Sub-Collector, Rajendra Minz, & others is garnering heaps of praises from all walks of life.
