In a significant victory for Odisha’s ongoing war against narcotics, Sonpur Police have seized more than 12.5 quintals of illegal ganja in a meticulously planned raid under the “Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan.”

The massive consignment, valued at an estimated ₹13 crore in the open market, was recovered from a truck in the Subalaya police station limits of Sonpur district.

Acting on specific intelligence that a truck was being used to transport huge quantities of banned ganja worth crores of rupees through the Subalaya area, police swung into action. A special team quickly formulated a strategy and launched a targeted raid. As officers closed in on the location, the truck driver and other accused allegedly fled the scene after spotting the police presence, leaving behind the vehicle loaded with the contraband.

Although no arrests have been made so far, the truck has been seized, and a widespread manhunt is underway. Police teams are conducting intensive searches and raids at multiple locations to track down the absconding individuals.

The State Police Headquarters has lauded the operation as a notable success. Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania has specially congratulated Sonpur SP Narayan Nayak and his team for their outstanding work in dismantling this major drug shipment.

A case has been registered at Subalaya police station, and investigations are continuing to uncover the full network behind the smuggling operation and identify other individuals who may be involved.

This latest bust reinforces the Odisha Police’s determined push under the Nishamukta Odisha Abhiyan to free the state from the menace of drugs.
