Activist Sonam Wangchuk hailed Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as a “victory of democracy,” following months of student-led protests over alleged exam irregularities and NEET paper leaks.
Sharing his reaction on X, Wangchuk wrote, “It’s a victory of democracy. Direct democracy, straight from the streets. It’s a victory of peace, patience, and perseverance.”
He congratulated the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) movement and the youth who participated in the protests, saying the campaign would now shift focus from accountability to systemic reforms in education.
Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, hours before the third round of talks between the government and protest representatives. His decision fulfilled the primary demand of demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar.
Wangchuk, who had been on a 26-day hunger strike since June 28, ended his fast after the government assured a parliamentary debate on the NEET leak, protection for protesting students, and compensation for affected families.
